Erath County United Way launches  program to help homeless population receive important mail
Picture

Receiving mail is something that most of us take for granted.

But for the homeless in Erath County, the lack of a place to receive important documents can be a substantial stumbling block to getting back on their feet, which is why Erath County United Way launched a program to rectify the problem.
The homeless mail program gives homeless families and individuals a designated mailing address they can list when applying for benefits such as supplementary food assistance, public assistance, disability and social security income and other vital services that require a permanent address.
“The program provides an entry point for many homeless people in Erath County into the coalition’s numerous other programs and services,” ECUW executive director Lisa Scroggins told Beneath the Surface News.
“Many of those who use the homeless mail program establish relationships with Erath County Community Bridges or local food pantries, which can address additional needs.”
The mailbox is at Basic Needs Ministry, located at 313 North Belknap in Stephenville.

Jill Scott, Executive Director with HOPE, Inc. reached out to Erath County United Way with an urgent need for assistance for the Stephenville Community Pantry and Dublin Mobil Pantry.
She had been notified that a freight delivery fee would be added to the mobile pantries from TAFB to cover the rising fuel costs. This was a shock as the mobile pantries are strictly volunteer and have no source of income to cover these costs.
The E.C.U.W. Board of Directors did not hesitate to assist HOPE and the mobile Pantries and funded these costs for 2 full year. This is a valuable FREE resource for anyone living in Erath County. As an example, last month 275 people / Families were served at the Stephenville Mobil Pantry and 170 at the Dublin Mobil Pantry.
By supplying fresh, FREE produce, canned goods, and healthy frozen items, Stephenville Community Pantry and Dublin Mobil Pantry provide valuable meal supplementation while helping those in need in our community to help maintain their independence and dignity.                          These drive-through pantries are especially crucial in our community.

ecuw announces partnership with  Doordash for 2024!

In 2023 E.C.U.W. and DoorDash partnered  to help resident get access to the food they needed. To date, the Ride United Last Mile Delivery Program has provided upwards of 330 deliveries in Stephenville. Today, we’re proud to announce that as the holidays and end of year approach, DoorDash has ramped up this effort to offer an additional 125 deliveries.
"DoorDash founded Project DASH to empower community organizations to leverage our logistics to increase access in their communities,” said Sueli Shaw, Head of Social Impact, DoorDash. “One of the most impactful ways we've been able to do this is by working with United Way to connect people across the country with resources they need, through our incredible Dasher community. We know there's still work to be done, so we're thrilled to continue our partnership with this new commitment."
This will mean another meal for Paula Sue, an elderly resident in Stephenville who is unable to get to the store on her own. Paula Sue is one of many of our senior citizens, along with youth, people experiencing homelessness, refugees, people with chronic health issues, and so many others who are in need of food as cases are spiking in communities across the country.
